This guide was made specifically for Leica programs and microscopes. The microscope we used to create this how-to guide is the Leica M205 C, consisting of z-stacking capabilities and a motorized column for effortless imaging.

Understanding the LAS X Software

The arrow box on the very left is a ‘Software Autofocus’ button.

The ‘Live Image’ button can be used to view what is currently under the microscope.

This button takes a Single Capture Image (i.e., not z-stacked) with all overlays stamped on it.

This button starts a Z-stack.

See Z-stacking settings section for more information.

On the top left side of the screen, you should see 6 boxes with icons.

Explorer: Organizes all the folders in the computer; where all of the photos taken on the program can be accessed.

Image: Where the exposure, gain, color mode, contrast, high dynamic range (HDR), and sharpening can be manipulated.

Illumination: Where the intensity of the lights on the microscope can be manipulated, in this case the SLI (Gooseneck) Light and HDI Light.

Magnification: Where the zoom and Iris control can be manipulated.

Z-stack: Where the z-stacked images are taken.

Autofocus: Where the digital autofocus system can be manipulated (not applicable).
