This guide was made specifically for Leica programs and microscopes. The microscope we used to create this how-to guide is the Leica M205 C, consisting of z-stacking capabilities and a motorized column for effortless imaging.
Hairy Seeds
For seeds with hair or a pappus, like Dubautia sp. or Abutilon sp., the light intensity is where users may run into issues. If the light is too bright, it will make the hairs “glow,” but not in a good way. We recommend turning down the exposure or brightness and increasing the contrast. Standard mode is recommended over HDR mode for best results.
Hibiscadelphus hualalaiensis
If the hairs are white, image the seed on the black background. If the hairs are darker, image the seed on the white background.
It is easier to view the hairs on a background that is the opposite color of the hairs.
